Mark Moore, CEO, Toothpic Pro
The story of Toothpic traces back to 2012, when CEO Mark Moore had a dental issue. “My dad is a dentist, and while working late one night, I was concerned about a gap I’d noticed in my lower gum, so I called him to ask what I should do. Of course, he couldn’t help over the phone but suggested I send him a photo.” Upon doing so, he called straight back with a diagnosis and recommendation and mentioned how the quality of the photo was as good as those taken by professional dental cameras. That’s when Moore realized how much technology could help dentists and consumers, and the original Toothpic was born.
The Toothpic team has been working in the teledentistry space for 5 years, and Toothpic Pro is their newest product, built out of feedback from dentists that they want a teledental solution in their practices, to use with existing patients or to attract new patients. It’s a teledentistry tool that allows patients to securely chat and send high-quality photos of their teeth to their dentist. Dentists and dental practice owners can sign up and get quick access to a teledental tool that requires no new equipment, is easy for patients to use and overall benefit from the possibilities of remote consultations. “The possibilities are endless, and that’s exciting for us.” according to Moore.
“Over the last few years, we have partnered with Philips Sonicare, allowing users of the connected toothbrush to get a remote consultation with a licensed dentist in their state. We have also been working closely with insurers across the country to bring teledentistry to their customers. The dentists have always been the most important piece in this puzzle, so we now decided to give the power of teledentistry to every practice owner in the USA with Toothpic Pro.”
Currently, dental care doesn’t always provide a great customer experience from the patient’s side. It can be seen as expensive, inconvenient, and complicated. Moore notes that the patients often want to know about the estimated cost before going for the treatment. Also, no one wants to visit the dentist again and again. Remote consultations remove a lot of the initial barriers for patients accessing an oral care professional, whether they’re anxious about the unknown costs or issues, they don’t have the time to get to the office, or they don’t know the dentist yet.
As there is more demand for cosmetic and more accessible dental care, we are happy to help dentists to differentiate themselves with virtual office experience
For dentists, Toothpic Pro can simplify their day, making it easier to attract customers, manage treatments and build trust with their patients. Toothpic Pro stands out because their service is so intuitive for consumers to use; it makes accessing quality dental care like booking an Uber.
What makes Toothpic unique from the myriad of solution providers available is that they understand how dentists are under pressure from commercialization, and broader trends around commoditization of the industry. Moore explains, “As there is more demand for cosmetic and more accessible dental care, we are happy to help dentists to differentiate themselves with virtual office experience.” Toothpic is making a win-win-win situation for dentists, patients, and insurance companies if patients can access care more efficiently.
Toothpic pro has helped doctors in a way to differentiate their practice and attract new patients, with some of them offering a free consultation before patients ever come to the office. This allows patients to understand what they need before they sit in the chair, and allows the dentists to show their expertise and build a relationship without the patient coming in. “The new chat feature has also helped dentists to share quick updates with patients as well, through a HIPAA compliant tool, ensuring patient information is secure, unlike other messaging apps,” adds Moore.
To sign a dentist up, the Toothpic team starts with a demo of the product with the dentist, discussing how they can best use Toothpic Pro in their practice. They worked together and set them up with an account to allow them to test the tool on their staff, to ensure everyone in the office understands the technology.
The Toothpic Pro team then creates a unique link to allow patients to connect with the dentists in that specific practice. The dentist can share this link with new and existing patients, and that’s when the magic happens. Whether it’s new patient acquisition, emergency care, triage, or remote work, Toothpic ensures that the dentist can connect with their patients efficiently. With secure instant chat, image sharing, and innovative blur detection and on-screen overlays, both the dentist and the patient can be confident in their care.
Moore notes that “The use cases are as varied as patients are, but overall, it works well as a patient acquisition and management tool. We are constantly updating our system to address the feedback we receive from dentists, so keep an eye on our LinkedIn page for the latest updates.”
